Responsibilities
What will the apprentice be doing?
Apprentices with Mackley are given the opportunity to learn and develop in all areas within groundworks and general site working. Groundworks apprentices will have the following responsibilities;
· Clear and tidy the construction site
· Dig trenches for foundations
· Set up sites including putting up barriers, safety signs and huts
· Provide evacuation support
· Interpreting the use of drawings and specifications
· Laying pavements, kerbs and driveways
· Removing drainage and pipework systems
· Operating plant machinery, such as excavators and dumper trucks
· Preparing the ground/ foundations to allow construction to begin
· Redirecting waterways and connecting pipes with existing pipework
Groundworks Level 2 programme at Fareham Colleges CETC campus, you will spend the first 20 weeks on block release training, before joining your employer for the rest of the programme on site.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Apprentices will undertake the Level 2 Groundwork apprenticeship standard, they will also be required to complete a relevant level of functional skills training.
The apprentice will undertake their apprenticeship training on a block release model through Fareham College. You will need to attend the CETC campus for the initial training stages of the programme.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
We are gold members of the 5% club (in excess of 5% of workforce in earn as you learn schemes) and are committed to training our Apprentices to a high standard.
We offer career progression opportunities such as NVQs, Degrees and further studying. Mackley also runs it’s own Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE) Training Scheme.
Reality Check
Groundworks is a physically demanding industry requiring workers to be physically able to be providing manual work. You will also be required to work in all weathers and seasons.Skills Required
