Responsibilities
The apprentice will work towards achieving the relevant skills, competencies and qualifications in order to be able to provide:
- You will learn and put into practice a broad range of horticultural skills required to undertake grounds maintenance activities throughout the districts parks and open space
- You will undertake training, both on the job and at college, so that by the end of the contract you will be able to provide a high quality maintenance service and gain a Level 2 Qualification in Horticulture
- Your role will be to work as part of a team, either in Bradford, Shipley or Keighley Parks and Street Cleansing Depots
- You will provide general support and assistance to semi-skilled, and specialists operatives
- Appropriate protective clothing and training will be provided which must be used.
- There may be other development opportunities
- Operates tools and equipment relevant to the apprentice gardener area of work
Future Prospects
The employer is offering a 2 year contract for the role. The apprentice would be able to apply for a full time role if available on completion.

Bradford Council may ask Shipley College to verify applicants Maths and English grades. If not available online we may ask for scans of certificates or arrange an online skills assessment.

Skills Required
- Required to understand and apply relevant technical knowledge, rules, processes and systems for the apprentice gardener role
- Uses basic awareness of Health, Safety and Environment, including Risk Analysis in your own area of work
- Operates tools and equipment relevant to the apprentice gardener area of work
- Awareness of data protection and data security protocols
- Ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of working more efficiently and effectively
- Knows and understands how to use, interpret, handle and communicate straightforward information
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office ie Outlook, Word, Excel
Qualities Required
- Adaptable to changes in workload and tasks
- Willingness to learn and develop skills
- A genuine desire to work outdoors
Qualifications Required
Maths and English at Level 1 equivalent.
Training Provided
- Training by day release at Shipley College with a tutor to support you through your porfolio of work and prepartion for your end point assessment
- Maths and English Functional Skills at Level 1 if required to complete the apprenticeship
