Job Description

Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) exists to provide, support, and champion high-quality education at the heart of local communities. We have grown to a family of 20 academies including secondary, primary, post 16 and special education establishments. They have an exciting opportunity for an apprentice to join the team.

Responsibilities

Purpose of the job:

  • To assist the Finance office with the Trust’s financial operations to ensure that all internal and external regulations are adhered to
  • To gain knowledge and working practices of accounting

Finance Responsibilities:

Travel Expenses:

  • Responsible for the accurate checking and reimbursement of staff mileage and expense claims
  • To keep comprehensive records of motor documents and to correctly update to staff expense accounts
  • To input expense claims onto the trust accounting system and to arrange recharges to other locations where appropriate

Handle staff expense queries Sales ledger:

  • Responsible for the issuing of internal and external sales invoices
  • Responsible for ensuring purchase orders and supporting paperwork are in place
  • To keep accurate files of all invoices issued
  • To chase debts that become overdue, by phone and in writing
  • Issue sales statements

Banking:

  • Keep cash flow updated weekly
  • Bank cheques

Purchase Orders:

  • Assist the finance officer in issuing purchase orders for hospitality, cross trust purchases, credit card purchases
  • Checking relevant deliveries and processing ‘goods received’ notes
  • Scanning purchase invoices and relevant filing
  • Ensure that the Trust’s financial procedures are adhered to at all times, with an emphasis on payment authorisations and ensuring that orders do not exceed Budget Holder’s financial limits
  • Responsible for telephony and photocopying recharges
  • Review the finance inbox daily and respond/forward mail accordingly
  • Undertake any other duties as deemed necessary by the Finance Officer

Miscellaneous:

  • Document scanning & filing
  • The post holder will have a shared responsibility for the safeguarding of all children and young people
  • The post holder also has an implicit duty to promote the welfare of all children and young people
  • Any other tasks, duties or services that may be reasonably requested

Health and Safety:

  • Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions
  • Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety and Welfare

Continuing Professional Development:

  • Participate in an induction programme
  • Undertake any necessary professional development as identified in the School Improvement Plan taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available

Apprenticeship:

  • Responsible for commitment to the apprenticeship schedule and remaining on track with tasks involved in apprenticeship plan
  • To actively engage and invest in personal learning and development with the appointed apprenticeship provider
  • Seek out opportunities to learn and understand relevant real-life experience that will enhance your apprentice experience

The role is varied and the experience that you will gain from starting as apprentice with CMAT will serve you well for future development within the accounting profession. As an ever growing Trust there will be ample opportunities to progress into subsequent roles within our finance department. The support, mentoring and insight into strong financial systems that you will receive will be beneficial to long term success and gaining a rounded experience of the accounting profession through apprenticeship.

GCSE, or equivalent, in maths and English at grade 4(C) or above - Essential.
