Now is the time, as we have an opportunity for an Apprentice Facilities Services Operator to join our team at the Southend Hospital. Over 12-15 months you will become a qualified Facilities Services Operator.


What will the apprentice be doing?

There are two main parts of this role:

The first is chiller work, picking and packing products for all wards and clinics within the hospital. General cleaning and stocking of the area, covering several dry stores, chilled and frozen rooms. The second is stores-person cover: ordering, receiving, storing, and counting stock for all aspects of the site, which operates a catering only service.

Duties and responsibilities of the facilities service operative will be to:

  • order, store, maintain and control all the required products, consumables, and disposable items
  • ensure 100% product/stock availability
  • highlight issues caused by suppliers
  • maintain cost control
  • maintain high standards of cleanliness
  • ensure that all store areas adhere to the cleanliness standards set out by management and the Trust

There is no supervision responsibility of other staff.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Alongside your day-to-day duties, you will complete the facilities services operator level 2 apprenticeship. This is a nationally recognised qualification, and the primary objective of the facilities services operator is to provide facilities services support to customers and facilities management departments. You will learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions. You will complete the Level 2 Facilities Services Principles qualification. You will spend time each week in-unit completing your apprenticeship with support from your mentor and your learning coach, and they will visit you and your line manager at your place of work. You are not expected to complete any of your apprenticeship work outside of your working hours.
