Job Description

HBE Services Limited are looking for an Apprentice Fabricator & Installer to carry out all workshop operations for the production of high-quality structural steelwork, architectural metal works and associated products both in the workshop and on site.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

The successful apprentice would start their apprenticeship in our workshop with the intention that they would progress to on site projects as a Site Fitter.

  • You will be involved in the offloading and temporary storage on site of steelwork, fixings and consumables.
  • You will undertake the erection and fixing of steelwork in line with supervisors instruction, site drawings, and specification
  • You will learn how to work safely and have regard for the safety of others on site
  • You will be taught how to read and interpret drawings
  • Learn to use hand tools/burning gear
  • Carry out welding to structural steel
  • Learn how to use plant & equipment
  • Once the candidate has a strong understanding of the workshop activities they will have the opportunity to learn role of a Site Fitter. This part of the apprenticeship will enable you to carry out site installation of structural steelwork and architectural metalwork.
  • You will work under supervision and be taught to use all workshop equipment including jigs
  • You will be shown how to carry out daily inspections of the workshop plant and equipment reporting any defects to the Charge hand
  • You will learn how to read and understand fabrication drawings of a complex nature and shown how to execute associated works in line with qualified Welding Process Specifications or Work Instructions
  • You will learn how to undertake Weld Qualification Tests on new products as detailed in Preliminary Welding Process Specifications and in accordance with BS EN ISO 15613
  • Under instruction you will carry out welding co-ordination and inspection of your own work and that completed by others, in line with the company's Welding Quality Management System
  • You will learn how to identify and report defects/non-conformities to the Responsible Welding Co-ordinator or Foreman inline with our Welding Quality Management System
  • You will learn how to liaise with the drawing office over any fabrication drawing queries
  • You will be taught how to accurately record hours clocked against job numbers
