Opportunity to work with a team working with an international event rider and in a yard that also maintains horses for equine therapy

Responsibilities

Duties to include

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning
  • Tacking up
  • Feeding
  • Filling hay nets
  • Clipping/pulling/plaiting/trimming
  • Bathing
  • Rug changing 
  • Schooling 
  • Riding 
  • First aid 
  • Exercising horses from the ground (lunging, horse walker, long reining, pessoa training etc.) 
  • Holding for vet/farrier/dentist

Blackford Eventing runs under the sponsorship of a parent company -Blackford Education (Schools) Ltd and also keeps and maintains the horses associated with the equine related therapy that goes on within the school timetable.

Applicants will be working with the eventing team and with care of the horses used in the equitherapy.
As well as qualifications obtained through the training provider all staff in the yard receive training in first aid and in health and safety as well as instruction from internationally qualified riding trainers.

Apprentices will receive basic salary for the first three months and their progress reviewed and could expect then to receive a rise in pay with a further review at six months when a further rise would be available subject to progress.
We run a bonus scheme for staff travelling with us to events.
Accommodation is available but not on site (about three miles away) so applicants need to be able to drive or ride a bike.


There is a possibility of accommodating a horse for an applicant subject to discussion and if required help would be given to allow for competition

  • Level 2 Equine Groom Standard
  • Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their Apprenticeship
