The machinist will be working in the material preparation department with the experienced machinist and the saw operator. They will have the opportunity to work in other areas of the business working with sophisticated machinery and the latest 3D CAD software.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Programming CNC machines
- Material stock control
- Material preparation – cutting, drilling and tapping
Working with fabrication staff producing stock components and both production and bespoke fabrications.
Working on the assembly of self-propelled vehicles, crop sprayers and cultivators – involving hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics.
Working with the engineering staff in supporting the manufacturing facility. This will involve drawing updates, stock control and system improvements.
Future ProspectsAt the end of the training period the apprentice can expect to take significant responsibility for the day to day work within the machine shop. If successful in this role, the apprentice will have the opportunity to progress into a production supervisory role with greater responsibility for coordinating the department.
Reality CheckWe’re based in a rural location so the apprentice will need to be able to travel to and from us.
The apprentice must possess good English and Mathematics ability in order to communicate smoothly in an engineering environment.
The apprentice must work well in a team and be keen to learn. Be able to use Initiative and urgency would be prized. Good time keeping is also essential.
Minimum 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science.
Attendance at college will be required.
