Job Description

You will be working towards a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship at Lovelace Primary School, based in Chessington. Lovelace Primary School opened in 1951 and have been educating children in the localities of Hook and Chessington for over seventy years.


What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Working under the guidance of the Head of Early Years and colleagues in delivering high quality early years
  • provision, offering appropriate play experiences to support and extend the children’s development
  • Contribute own thoughts and ideas to long, medium and daily planning
  • Preparing the learning environment both in the classroom and outdoors, assisting in setting up and maintaining
    all equipment and resources.
  • To support the development of pupil’s communication and language by modelling clear and grammatically correct
  • To actively encourage all children’s progress in all areas of development through interaction and extension of play
    activities. Support children to develop independence, self-reliance, initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Observing children’s activities and contributing to their written records.
  • Working in a non-discriminatory way, being aware of differences and ensuring all children have equal access to
    opportunities to learn, develop and make progress.
  • Being supportive and welcoming to parents / carers
  • To create a safe environment for children, staff and others ensuring that all Health and Safety procedures and
    good practice is followed and that high standards of hygiene are maintained at all times.
  • To operate simple ECT programmes

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The qualifications that you will gain at Level 2 are the following:

  • Early Years Practitioner Qualification Level 2
  • Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard Level 2
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English (if required)

The qualifications that you will gain at Level 3 are the following:

  • Early Years Educator Qualification Level 3
  • Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard Level 3
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English (if required)
  • First Aid Qualification

The apprentice will spend 20% (approcimately 8 hours per week) on training. The location of training will be:

  • Workbased/Twickenham Training Centre
  • Online


What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This is the progression for level 2:

  • There are a number of roles that can be applied for with the Early Years Level 2 Practitioner qualifications such as; Childminder Assistant, Early Years Practitioner, Nanny and Early Years Worker, Nursery Assistant, Nursery Nurse, and Nursery practitioner.

This is the progression for level 3:

  • This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator and other relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care, including First Aid.
  • With additional experience, an Early Years Educator can become the manager of an early years setting.
