Job Description

You will develop your own area of expertise, learning Drupal and other open source technologies. You will participate in sessions, code reviews and project planning whilst shadowing experienced developers on larger projects. You will learn about the wider business and how strategy, design, user experience and development create the end product.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carry out maintenance tasks including security updates, module configuration and small work orders
  • Manage inbound calls from existing customers
  • Ensure work is completed within agreed deadlines to a high level of satisfaction
  • Liaise with clients via phone/video/email to provide updates and troubleshoot
  • Create and coordinate quote information for larger pieces of maintenance work and non maintenance work
  • Communicate timescales to clients
  • Ensure the ticketing system is kept up to date and work is actioned within agreed SLAs
  • Ensure timesheets are completed on a daily basis and accurately recorded against tasks
  • Record at least minimum required CPD hours

Qualifications Required

  • Candidates for the Degree Apprenticeship should have a minimum of 104 points at A2 (Grades BCC) or an equivalent e.g. BTEC DMM.
  • You will also require Maths and English Language GCSE grade A*-C (or the equivalent)

Training Provided

Apprentices will develop the fundamental skills, knowledge and behaviours for a successful career in IT.  

Apprentices will follow one of four specialist pathways:

  • IT consultant (business technology) - focusing on business technologies and technology management
  • Cyber security analyst - responding to threats by assessing and securing vulnerable systems
  • Data analyst - managing and analysing big data and its commercial applications
  • Software engineer - including advanced programming, software development and databases
  • Software engineer (mainframe) - focusing on the principles of computing that underpin the effective use of mainframe technologies

Year one:

  • Introduction to Programming
  • Introduction to Business Systems
  • Introduction to Web Development

Year two:

During year two, apprentices will study two core units and a third unit that relates specifically to their chosen pathway.

Core units:

  • Computing Fundamentals
  • Technology Management

Pathway units:

  • Computer Security Fundamentals (Cyber Security Analyst pathway)
  • Statistics and Visualisation (Data Analytics pathway)
  • Customer Lifecycle Management (IT Consultant pathway)
  • Advanced Programming (Software Engineering pathway)

Year three:

IT Consultant:

  • Web Design and Development
  • Business Intelligence and Strategy
  • Business Research Project

Software Engineer:

  • Computer Networks and Operating Systems
  • Enterprise Programming
  • Development Project

Cyber Security Analyst:

Year four:

In the fourth year, apprentices will study two core units and one elective unit.
