Job Description

Apprentice Commis Chef - Learning all aspects of working in a kitchen and a starting block for a career in Hospitality.


Duties of the role will include:

  • Cleaning
  • Use of equipment
  • Knife skills
  • Preparation; general veg prep, soups and sauces, and meat
  • Labelling
  • Understanding recipes, portion size and costs
  • Identifying products, cuts and food groups
  • Stock rotation
  • Teamwork & communication
  • Personal hygiene

Qualifications Required

GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English.

Level 1 NVQ in Catering (or equivalent) is preferred.

Training Provided

Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)

You will also complete the following online training:

  • Food Safety Level 2
  • Allergen Awareness
  • Health & Safety
  • Manual Handling
  • Coronavirus – taking pro-active action
