Job Description

This is your opportunity to start a career in civil engineering with Suffolk Highways. Suffolk Highways is looking for 2 apprentices to learn the skills needed to assist with the preparation, design and delivery of technical solutions to engineering problems.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Through placements in different teams you will learn how to liaise between the engineers, management and operatives in a highway environment.
  • You will undertake activities such as preparing technical designs, drawings and documentation including setting out, site measurements, quality control and checking and reporting on progress.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

On this Level 3 apprenticeship you will achieve the Civil Engineering Technician Standard and the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment – Civil Engineering. This will involve  attending Suffolk New College, Rope Walk, Ipswich, IP4 1LT for 1 day per week.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once qualified you could apply to join our degree apprenticeship programme to gain a BA (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering which could then lead you into many roles within our Growth, Highways and Infrastructure Directorate of Suffolk County Council
