As part of the apprentice programme you will learn in the workplace and have off the job training.

Job Summary:

  • To undertake a development programme leading to a National Standard/ Framework as part of an apprenticeship
  • To actively participate in their own development plan this will be agreed with the line manager and the training provider
  • Complete the Apprenticeships Standard/Framework within the agreed timescales
  • To provide the correct up to date information to patients, colleagues, other departments within the Trust, external organisations and the general public
  • Under supervision To provide the correct up to date information to patients, colleagues, other departments within the Trust, external organisations and the general public
  • Liaise effectively in a professional, pleasant and courteous manner with patients, colleagues, others departments within the Trust, external organisations and the general public
  • Effectively deal with telephone enquiries/take messages in a pleasant courteous manner to both external and internal customers following the agreed procedures
  • To deal with daily routine enquiries, along with non-routine enquiries and provide information and/or advice where appropriate or refer onto other staff members where necessary
  • Support the smooth running and efficiency of the department/work area
  • Liaise with team members to follow up queries and issues and resolve problems where appropriate
  • Communicating effectively with customers face to face, in writing, or by telephone
  • Provide information and/or advice where appropriate or refer onto other staff members where necessary
  • Develop a good working knowledge of the service, to be able to provide up to date information and advice
  • To ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Undertake filing, photocopying and scanning in a timely and accurate way

To qualify for the apprenticeship role the minimum criteria is:

  • That you must have GCSE or equivalent in English and maths
  • Have not completed an apprenticeship at the same level and sector in the past
  • Do not have a degree in a similar or same subject

Future Prospects

Working for the NHS for 13 months will enable you to gain valuable experience, develop skills and gain a Standard qualification.  Presently there is no guarantee of full time employment after 13 months, however if there are vacancies within the NHS you will be encouraged and assisted to apply for jobs that meet your career aspirations.

Reality Check

  • You will be working full time and also working towards a Standard that will include, study in your own time. You will need to ensure you are able to get to the workplace on time

Qualifications Required

Maths and English GCSE level grade F – A* (9-1) or from 2017 GCSE grade 1 – 9 or Functional Skills at level 1 or above or equivalent.

Training Provided

  • The apprentice will work towards a level 2 apprenticeship in Business Administration
  • Functional skills in maths and English (if required)
  • You will receive a programme of study and be supported by a qualified Training and Assessing team to reach a successful end point assessment
