We are looking for people to join our Thatchers family. This an opportunity for anybody who wants to pursue a career in finance as an accounts apprentice. Through our Young Talent apprenticeship programme, you will gain your L3 AAT qualification.

Responsibilities

As an Accounts Assistant you will be responsible for the processing of purchase and sales invoices and as well as other business requirements as necessary.  You will be working within a busy and dynamic team and be part of Thatchers Apprenticeship Programme.

You will complete a full L3 AAT qualification (and Level 2 if not previously attained) in partnership with our training provider Weston College.  At the start of this journey we will review your skills and ambitions to create a training plan that meets your individual needs.  As part of our Young talent program we will develop your skills and knowledge through a range of business seminars and networking opportunities that will give you a thorough insight into our industry and business. 

Key accountabilities and duties:

Purchase Ledger

  • Maintaining vendor accounts
  • Processing of purchase orders, goods received notice & supplier invoices
  • Processing of daily cheque requests and posting to supplier accounts
  • Processing of ad-hoc payments & transfers and posting to supplier or general ledger accounts
  • Coding and processing of employee expenses
  • Supplier statement reconciliations
  • Filing of invoices and remittances
  • Ensuring supplier queries are dealt with in a timely manner and resolved correctly and efficiently

Sales Ledger

  • Posting and printing of daily invoices
  • Processing of credit notes for returned polys & stock, ullages, damages & short deliveries
  • Processing and allocation of payments (cash, cheques, cards etc) to customer accounts
  • Review and seek approval for credit limit changes
  • Aged debt review and collection of outstanding balances
  • Investigation and processing of short deliveries, debit notes and other queries (inc manager approvals)
  • Liaising with distribution to confirm loads & deliveries (POD’s)
  • Filing of customer invoices and statements
  • Data Analysis Support to the Sales Directors
  • Reconciliation and posting of retro invoices
  • Promotional controls to ensure compliance
  • Pricing updates (annual & duty-related) & promotional entry onto Nav
  • Pricing of Export proforma invoices

General

  • Collate and provide accurate information as necessary in order to aid sound decision making
  • General NAV support
  • Point of contact for external auditors
  • Undertake any other tasks as reasonably required by the Financial Controller or designated authority

Other Duties

  • Office duties
  • Business admin support across all areas of the business

  • Further progression available upon successful completion of the apprenticeship

Skills Required

  • Willing and able to dedicate time and attention to the detail
  • Computer literate in Microsoft programs (i.e. Word and Excel)
  • Demonstrable experience of processing high volumes efficiently and accurately whilst also adhering to tight deadlines
  • Team player
  • Full UK driving licence would be beneficial due to the rural location however the ability to travel to work on time is essential

Qualifications Required

  • GCSE maths and English grade 4 - 9
  • Ideally AAT Level 2 or equivalent

Training Provided

  • Advanced Assistant Accountant Level 3
  • Functional Skills in maths and English if not previously achieved
  • Day release at Weston College to study AAT Level 3
