As an Ancillary Apprentice you will be involved in a variety of tasks from air monitoring and ventilation to supporting the careful movements of our products. Day to day tasks could include anything from measuring and covering electrical panels and pipework, lifting complex items such as the reactor plug into the reactor compartment or gas testing.

As an Ancillary Apprentice you will be involved in a variety of tasks from air monitoring and ventilation to supporting the careful movements of our products. Day to day tasks could include anything from measuring and covering electrical panels and pipework, lifting complex items such as the reactor plug into the reactor compartment or gas testing.

What does the Apprenticeship involve?

During your apprenticeship you will gain many skills, including:

  • Assessing and measuring specific items to ensure that the protective equipment manufactured to templates aligns with the size of the item to be protected
  • This also involves operating the sewing machine to construct the protection, then installing the protection onto the equipment
  • You will also gain experience of working safely in accordance with operational requirements and associated Safe Systems of Work

Teamwork and communication skills are essential to this role as liaising with other trade groups will be required when working.  Whilst moving our products you may carrying out mooring and berthing operations, docking and undocking and operating capstans and anchoring arrangements in the dock systems, under the supervision of the shipwrights and boat movement team.

When you successfully complete your apprenticeship, we will help you to move into a suitable role, subject to the requirements of the business.

Qualifications Required

5 GCSEs at grades A*-E/9-3 (or equivalent), including English, maths and Science/technical subject.

Training provider to be confirmed.

The apprentice will be working towards an Engineering Operative Level 2.

Whilst working full-time. you will be provided with off-the-job training delivered in dedicated in-house training facilities or at our partner colleges or universities.
