Job Description

This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain work experience within the accountancy function of a local authority. Training is ongoing and comprehensive; you’re receive full training in all aspects of the job role with rotation in different teams. This could be the starting point to a career in local authority finance.


What will the apprentice be doing?

Assist in the preparation of the annual estimates culminating in the Budget and Council Tax Setting report to Council. Assist in the monitoring and reporting of financial performance against capital and revenue budgets and investigating variances. Support the year-end closure of the accounts culminating in the Outturn report to Cabinet and  the preparation of the Statement of Accounts, the preparation, calculation, analysis and completion of comparative statistics 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As an apprentice you will be completing the level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship. You will gain new skills and knowledge while working within the Finance team and to support your development you will be competing your apprenticeship with CIPFA. You will be allocated 20% of your working week to your apprenticeship training and this will be supported by a dedicated coach from your training provider along with workshops and training material. You will be based in the  modernised town hall

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

At the end of the contract, dependent on exam results and performance in the role, there will be an opportunity to progress and complete the AAT qualification, with the possibility of going on to become a fully qualified accountant.
