We've worked with 1000+ employers over the last year. There is an opportunity for an apprentice to join the Finance team.

Responsibilities

West Suffolk College has an opening for an Apprentice in Finance, this is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in starting a career in finance. Initially working in our cash book position, this role will vary during the fixed term contract allowing the opportunity to gain a wide understanding of Finance roles including Bursary and Sales Ledger.

To make the most of this opportunity you will be expected to complete your apprenticeship qualification during your day release hours. AAT revision is expected to be completed in your own time. This is a globally recognised qualification and is the first step on the path to becoming a qualified accountant.

Role Responsibilities

Initially your role will based around the cash book and responsibilities will include:

  • Daily inputting, checking and reconciling of the bank statements
  • Reconciling the credit card bank account
  • Maintenance of the nominal ledger accounts
  • Accruals for month end accounts

You will also get the opportunity to experience the following roles:

Bursary:

  • Help in the administration of the Discretionary Learner Support Fund, including opening accounts, inputting invoices and answering customer queries
  • Process cheque requisitions, refunds and internet payments arranging for appropriate authorisation
  • Collect & distribute the departmental post
  • Balance departmental control accounts
  • Raising and distributing Sales ledger invoices and credit notes on a daily basis

Sales ledger:

  • Credit control
  • Input and monitor sales ledger invoices, credit notes and receipts
  • Monitoring DD’s
  • Supporting the Management Accountant

Skills Required

Essential:

  • Good administrative and record keeping skills
  • Competence in communication and mathematical skills

Desirable:

  • Good IT skills
  • Working knowledge of Sage, Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word

Qualifications Required

  • At least GCSE, or equivalent, grade 4/C or above in maths and English is essential
  • Level 2 AAT qualification is desired
