Are you interested in trees, machinery and working outside? This apprenticeship enables you to learn about the science, art and practice of arboriculture. This role provides the practical work experience and learning to gain the knowledge, skills, training and experiences in arboriculture to prepare you for life in the industry.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

You will work alongside our knowledgeable, skilled and experienced staff in an RHS Garden, alongside studying at college to develop, enhance and deepen your understanding of arboriculture. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will work with trees in the garden and wider estate of RHS Rosemoor. Learn how to be environmentally aware, and safely use tools, techniques and machinery that will equip you for life in the arboricultural industry.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This role provides the work based training in an RHS garden for the L2 Arborist standard, the arb apprentice will stay with the same team to experience tree work and different aspects of woodland management. College training will take place in a week long residential block at a land based college (approximately 5 x per year).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Arborists who have the Level 2 standard could; 

  • Continue to study for the Level 3 or beyond at college
  • Work in public gardens or parks
  • Work in woodland or estate management
  • Work with an arboricultural contractor/ tree surgeon
  • Become self employed

Reality Check

Applicants must be willing to work outdoors in all weathers. College is delivered in residential blocks, so apprentices must be able to live away from home for one week at a time.
