Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

This role provides vital support to the finance team, providing administrative support for both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.


The successful candidate will assist the Accounts Payable team through accurately processing supplier invoices and ensuring they have been authorised properly in line with our internal controls, and through applying the correct financial budget codes. They will monitor company credit card expenditure and ensure all credit card holders submit receipts in a timely manner. They will communicate with suppliers and internal budget holders to resolve their queries.


The apprentice will support the Accounts Receivable team by raising sales invoices, processing sales receipts and chasing outstanding debtors. They will reconcile income from our charity shops recorded via the till system to bank receipts and raise queries with the retail team. They will provide a first level response to the retail team on income matters.


There will be other ad hoc tasks as requested by the line manager and other members of the team.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Level 3.

This level is ideal for existing staff or new talent in an accounting or finance role. Their work could include assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements.

You will be studying the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. This level will encourage you to master more complex accounting principles in both Bookkeeping and Management Accounting.

You will study 5 units:

  • Financial Accounting; Preparing Financial Statements (FAPS).
  • Management Accounting Techniques (MATS).
  • Tax Processes for Business (TPFB).
  • Business Awareness (BUAW).
  • Advanced Synoptic Assessment (ADSY) which forms part of your End Point Assessment.

Training will be provided by attending either face-to-face classroom based lessons, Live Online sessions or OnDemand.

An apprenticeship has to be relevant to the job you are undertaking and you must dedicate 20% of your time towards it.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

If a suitable role becomes available, the apprentice would need to apply for the role via a competitive selection process. Otherwise, the company would support them to find their next opportunity.

Reality Check

Holidays - 27 days holiday per year. 2 days leave for religious holidays, plus public and bank holidays. Discretionary day(s) given at Christmas. Pension Scheme - 5% non-contributory pension scheme. with increasing AIUK contributions subject to your contributions up to a maximum of 9%.
