What will the apprentice be doing?
As an Apprentice engineer, you will learn and obtain experience in the fundamentals of mechanical, electrical and public health engineering working closely with Senior Engineers of all disciplines assisting in the design of building services. Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, you will be taught, and will put into practice, engineering skills which will be key for a junior engineering role.
Your apprenticeship will last for a minimum of 5 years, during which time you will rotate around the wide range of engineering departments across our business. You will work as part of a team assisting in the design and delivery of building and engineering projects in order to achieve the highest quality within given time scales, budgets and statutory requirements.
You will be involved in the development of the design from concept through to an ongoing monitoring role in the construction phases of a project. At all times you will be encouraged to champion low energy, sustainable design solutions.
The design approach we are now adopting involves producing digital models of the building incorporating all the various design disciplines. This provides a very hands on environment in which to learn about the roles and responsibilities of other members of the team.
Your work base will be flexible and could be in one of Mace offices or at a client’s office or facility. You will gain exposure to all aspects of project delivery from concept design, through to construction, commissioning, validation handover and into operation.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Our structured training programme will teach you technical and business skills to help you succeed in your career.
The Engineering Assistant apprenticeship will work towards the Building Services Design Engineer L6 which consists of work-based experience and training.
