Job Description

Health, safety, and wellbeing (HSW) is firmly ingrained in Mace’s philosophy. The last 30 years has seen Mace continually strive to reduce risks, and protect our people and stakeholders, by building a culture where safety first becomes second nature whilst studying for the Health, Safety and Environment Technician L3 apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

What will the apprentice be doing?

As a Health, Safety and Wellbeing apprentice, you’ll be partly office-based, and partly at the work front supporting the delivery of our HSW programme to ensure we reduce risk through our construction projects. Activities would include but not be limited to:

  • Assist the management team in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System by updating systems in line with changes in legislation or best practice, delivering training, coaching construction teams, and undertaking workplace inspections
  • Proactively support the delivery of the HSW strategy to ensure it remains relevant and value adding in line with the desired outcomes
  • Coordinate team events, workshops, and forums
  • Assist in the delivery of communications including campaigns
  • Attend meetings, inspections and audits as required to take notes and record actions
  • HSW administration tasks to support reporting, presentations, documentation reviews and updates, training matrix, monitoring programmes
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents with the aim of understanding what is required to prevent a recurrence and embed the learning within the organisation

Your work base will be flexible and could be in one of Mace offices or at a client’s office or facility. You will gain exposure to all aspects of project delivery from concept design, through to construction, commissioning, validation handover and into operation.

Our structured training programme will teach you technical and business skills to help you succeed in your career.

The Health & Safety Assistant apprenticeship will work towards the Health, Safety & Environment Technician L3 which consists of work-based experience and training.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We’ll also support you in gaining professional membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
