Job Description

Transport planners ensure transportation networks are safe and sustainable for the future. They have an impact on every day journeys of the public as well as future-proofing for our ever growing population


What will the apprentice be doing?

So, what is transport planning all about?

Can you imagine what it would be like to have an impact on the everyday journeys of those around you? Well as a transport planner you’ll be doing just that. Working alongside our network of experts, you’ll be helping to ensure that future transport and traffic plan designs continue to benefit the public and sustain the environment. Your responsibilities and possibilities will be endless! With the skills and knowledge gained from this apprenticeship, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects, such as modelling transport systems or the development and implementation of travel planning schemes. Your work will include:

  • Junction modelling
  • GIS analysis
  • Travel demand management
  • Development planning
  • Qualitative and quantitiative data collection


What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be taught on block release at Leeds College of Building so will have the opportunity to experience campus life while away studying.

You will have a line manager, mentor and buddy as well as the support of your wider team. We also have a dedicated learning and development team who will be there to offer advice and assistance when required.

At the end of all your hard work, you’ll have a Level 3 Diploma in Transport Planning along with the opportunity to become a qualified engineering technician (EngTech).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Upon sucessful completion of your advanced level apprenticeship you will be moved onto the degree level apprenticeship and earn a BSc in Transport Planning as well as further development opportunities as part of our graduate programme.
