Job Description

We require a Maintenance & Operations Engineering Level 3 apprentice to begin a journey with us to become a skilled maintenance engineer


Our main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. professionals from across the region. You could be working at either hospital.

  • You’ll be joining and undertaking an apprenticeship in a rewarding and challenging role using the latest equipment by taking an apprenticeship in Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technicians at St Georges NHS Trust
  • Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technicians covers 7 roles: Electrical Technicians; Mechanical Technicians; Control & Instrumentation Technicians; Wind Turbine Technicians Electrical System and Process Control Technicians; Electromechanical Technicians and Plant Operations Technicians
  • They will maintain the safety, integrity and effective operation of plant and equipment in the industries of Electrical/Mechanical/Control and Instrumentation
  • Technicians will work on various types of plant and equipment commonly found throughout the Engineering Industry sectors and the Technicians can be expected to migrate through these sectors during the course of their careers
  • The areas of work will always be different and challenging but rewarding when you have achieved the job in hand
  • Dependent upon the sector that they are employed in there may be subtle differences in terms of the composition and application of the plant and equipment. This will include mechanical, electronic, electrical, water based operations, and other types of maintenance as is fitting with this role.  However, the fundamental principles of operation will be the same regardless of the engineering sector

  • The successful applicant will need to complete and pass a DBS check
  • Apprentices will be required to attend college for 2 days per week at Uxbridge Campus completing necessary mandatory training and units associated with the apprenticeship

Mandatory - GCSE Level C+5 and above in maths & English 

Training Provided

Our Account Manager, industry-trained assessor and Learning Advocate will support apprentices to deliver our high-quality training programmes

The apprentice will be required to complete:

  • QCF Framework
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours
  • Standard and End Point Assessment
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT (if required)

Other training will be provided by the employer as required to enable the fulfilment of the job role.
