Many employers will conduct an initial interview over the phone, before deciding whether to invite you for an interview in person. It's therefore important to be ready at a moment's notice.
The interview preparation you would do for a face to face interview is very relevant - they are likely to ask you some of the key questions, to do with what interests you about the role and why you would be good for it. These are things you can always be thinking about, and will be handy when you suddenly have to conduct a phone interview.
- Have a copy of your CV to hand. You can refer to this as they ask you questions.
- Make sure you are somewhere quiet, preferably on a landline.
- Have a pen and paper handy to make notes
- Make sure you end politely, thanking them for the call and confirming when you can expect to hear from them again.
